RAISE - Hezekiah Intro
Просмотров 54Месяц назад
Continuing with our Get To Know Us series, here's an introduction (or, for many, a re-introduction) to the superproducer from Beat Society and our RAISE Ambassador Hezekiah!
RAISE - Nadira In The Studio
Просмотров 2Месяц назад
Our RAISE intern Nadira has never recorded her poetry before, let alone to an outstanding beat crafted by Hezekiah. Here's just a taste of her lyricism. The full track and others from our first cohort are coming soon.
RAISE - Dr. Kelli Intro
Просмотров 3Месяц назад
Sometimes when you put out a call for participants, old friends see the value in your efforts and want to join in. That was the case when Sis. Dr. Kelli reached out to join our first RAISE cohort and learn more about Rev. Dr. Leon H. Sullivan’s legacy with us. We’ll also challenge her to exercise her poetic muscles a bit. #Sankofa #LearnAsWeGrow
RAISE - Meet Nadira
Просмотров 8Месяц назад
A quick introduction to one of our RAISE interns: Nadira, a poet hailing from North Philadelphia. We will benefit from her lyricism this summer before she heads off to college in the fall.
RAISE - Amir Intro
Просмотров 82 месяца назад
The first of a series of videos introducing the Ambassadors and participants of our RAISE [Resurrect. Amplify. Inspire. Share. Educate] summer internship program. The footage will be presented as a documentary in late summer/early autumn 2024.

    Why the hatred tho? It existed. It was here. It did very well. It still continues in some lovers of the Artist thoughts, those same Artists that marketed it and that took advantage of it with none of this complaint! I actually thank Kedar!!!!!!

    • @SoulSanctuaryInc
      @SoulSanctuaryInc 9 месяцев назад

      I'm sorry that you see it as hate because that certainly isn't the spirit in which this conversation took place. The reasoning is simple: if Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul, period, and you group those who were deeply influenced by her under some hyphenated derivative, it creates separation. Philly's artists did not ask for, nor want, that separation. They want to be directly tied to that legacy.

      @@SoulSanctuaryInc No, and with utmost respect to you, I didn't think I had to be so specific. The main point of my commenting? I was, yes, triggered by the heading or title itself.' 'No such thing as 'Neo Soul' People on the otherside of this 'argument' of non existence feel just as strongly as you do for its realness and for its value to them and, in the fairness you would want for your beliefs or feelings you should allow that respect and courtesy as well to others. At the very least, as a brand ''Neo Soul'' most definitely DID exist- peoples distates for the term notwithstanding- Was there anything particular 'Neo' or new about that era of Soul music? No- ''A Rose by anyother name'! '- It simply continued, authentically, or, better, organically, if you will, the evolution of Soul Music. But even in that, both for those too young to know or appreciate say... Bebop, Billie Holiday, or, Arthur Prysock, or, The Last Poets on up to Roberta, Aretha, Marvin, etc and those too who understood the 'marketing ploy' but for the many, many modern Artists who bit of the soul tree and spit out the seeds of that loved that they brought these beautiful, cool and inspiring branded, 'Neo Soul' songs and aesthetics, we appreciated the effort! To these folks ''Neo Soul'' was and is still 'a thing'! I watched objectively, fairly your Vdo, and I give full value to your point of, in a word, 'from Aretha to Philly Artists, Soul Music IS a continuum. That wasn't my objection. It was, again, the easy dismissing of a thing that simply and ONLY for its terminology so many of you deny ever existed at all! In fairness, I had the same problem/issue with 'Smooth Jazz', so I get it. ''Gad'damn 'Kem' and 'Kenny ~F***N~ G' ain't no damn Jazz [[Artist!]]''. ''Blasphemy''!!! BUT, 'Smooth Jazz' definitely existed , does still now exists, sales products and sales in the Billions to individuals who like it! Others have made the same argument for 'P.M. Dawn' NOT being 'Rap or 'Hip Hop'. But, really, when it comes down to it its all a matter of sematics and ones personal preferences at the end of the day! Thank you for your Programing!! Don't have to agree with you to know still that you guys [Ladies n Gents] do great work!

    • @stefrenee
      @stefrenee 9 месяцев назад

      @@rainwaterradio9371 I need you to know how hard I laughed at your quick burst of distaste for those two "Smooth Jazz" artists. So I get it and always appreciate a vigorous exchange of ideas. Thanks for watching and engaging, and I hope you'll stick around for the other projects we have on tap in 2024.

      @rainwaterradio9371 9 месяцев назад

      @@stefrenee Oh, most definitely! Again, I dont have to agree with what I watch or hear. Let me tell both of you who have responded to my commenting that I really appreciate that we can diasagree and, yet, still have civil conversation! Have never let anyone ever stop me from speaking my mind, but I'll admit I'm not used to that. I was so surprise for your grace to me to speak it here, as so many today on social media, who otherwise think their progressive or intellegent, would not!!!!! I love your programming and Channel! I actually subscribed before I initially commented. You guys Soul! [Can't say 'Rock'!] And, FYI, so that I dont appear a hypocrite... yes, I at one point said and did honestly feel that way about 'Smooth Jazz', but, while I dont have to like it, I advocate for its existence and for others enjoyment of it!

    All too simple, as the terms, must be phresh and descriptive. Neo, is a character, from a film, or is presented as a caution to the now. Definitely music industry category for their used records bin. Nice of them to prepare , the thievery of publishing rights, it will never get better, in jamerica

    I understand it. It’s not new but revived soul which has been lost over the years, the music and the vibe and feel in which R&B is unidentifiable now😢It’s nothing new just revived. The white man didn’t label it. I feel that the box can grow and even expand without loosing its musical integrity and richness but continue to showcase talent that produces quality musical work…….that’s how I view Neo Soul.

    I hate labels in general, interresting music can't be pigeonholed. It breaks the boundaries of a genre. When I go into recordstores, I usually have to ask under which label they organised the bleeding album I wanna buy. And I personally consider that a mark of good taste 😂. But how you call it is insignificant to me, the music was made by great musicians (some even from Detroit would you believe it 😮). And the "was" in this sentence is my greatest problem. Lately there is music from Australia that sort of tries to revive the recipe.

    I completely understand the term "Neo-Soul" because its music sounds modern, but with classical touches and flurries that can be influenced by the soul of the 60s, 70s, & 80s and Funk sounds of the 70s and also Jazz & Jazz Funk and Fusion sounds that don't sound like the commercial sounds we've been accustomed to associating with modern radio stuff.. You can tell when you hear something that's considered as Neo-Soul, in my opinion I heard the beginnings of Neo-Soul in the UK back in the late 80s, with soulful bands incorporating jazz fusion sounds which also fused hip hop elements.. Neo-Soul to me is soulful funky jazz music that sounds organic, but modern even if it includes synth sounds it still sounds earthly.. However, Neo-Soul has come home to the USA even though it's origins are worldwide..

    It's now become a term for gospel bands who want to pretend they are funk/hip hop influenced to draw kids into their praise and worship cults.
